Coral bells are perpetual favorites, and their colorful foliage can add interest and texture to any garden.

The first coral bells had green foliage, but these days, green foliage selections can be hard to find. New selections have purple, red, and white marbling and different colored venation. You will often see foliage colors of bright gold, orange and brown.

Forest could become a smoke-free city if the Board of Aldermen approve a proposal banning smoking in public places, the Scott County Times reports.


It is just one of several new policies that the Board of Aldermen is considering that were mentioned during the past two regular meetings.

Pam Clark was recently selected as the School Nurse of the Year for the East Central Mississippi School Nurse Association, according to Morton Elementary School.

Clark serves as a nurse at Morton elementary and Morton high schools.

One spring-blooming shrub that garners almost as much attention as the azalea is the gardenia. The fragrance of the gardenia flower is beyond description, as it is both heady and strong.

The gardenias for our landscapes are known botanically as Gardenia jasminoides. They were brought to the Southeastern United States in the late 1700s from their native range in Japan and China.

Sebastopol Attendance Center honors retirees

Sebastopol Attendance Center recently held a retirement reception for three employees who have spent years in education.

Lynn Myers was honored for her 25 years, Freda Stuart for 29 years and Kathy Shepard for 35 years.

Each teacher received a token of appreciation from the Sebastopol faculty, according to the school.
